Translate audio to English

Choose a recording in any language and get an English transcript or English subtitles, translated on your device.

How to translate audio to English text

  1. Choose the recording.
  2. Set the spoken language (or leave it on automatic). Translate to English is already ticked.
  3. Download English text, or SRT for English subtitles.

How the translation works

Whisper listens to the original language and writes English directly, keeping the original timing, so the result works as subtitles. It translates into English only; for other target languages, transcribe first and translate the text separately.

Translation is looser than transcription: meaning is usually right, exact wording less so. Check anything you will publish or rely on.

Frequently asked questions

Is my recording uploaded to a server?

No. The speech model is downloaded to your browser once and the audio is transcribed on your own phone or computer. The file never leaves your device.

Why is the first transcription slower?

The first time, your browser downloads the speech model (about 40 MB for Quick, 80 MB for Balanced, 250 MB for Accurate). After that it is cached and starts in seconds, even offline.

How long can the recording be?

There is no fixed limit. An hour-long lecture works on most laptops; on a phone, recordings under about 30 minutes are more comfortable. Lines appear while it works, so you can stop at any point and keep what is done.

Can it translate English audio into Hindi?

No. The speech model only translates into English.
